StartupDelta mentoring network

StartupDelta Mentoring Platform is a community of Dutch tech entrepreneurs and professionals based in some of the major tech hubs of the world. It connects Dutch startups and fast-growing companies which are undertaking or seriously considering an expansion to a foreign tech hub, with Dutch entrepreneurs and professionals already living and working in that hub. The latter offer to be a temporary mentor and provide their expertise, experience and network in order to help grow to the Dutch startups’ and fast-growing companies’ business in the new market as well as in the Netherlands.

We use the building of this community to create a shared sense of identity amongst the Dutch entrepreneurs and tech professionals in foreign tech hubs. Mentors are prompted to co-create and offer startups access to a network in which people are eager to share knowledge and expertise, where collaboration is key over competition, and where there is a sense of pride and commitment to grow the Dutch tech ecosystem. This will not only help grow it, but also support its diversification.

How it started and our ambition!

Originally launched as the DutchBasecampNYC Mentoring Network - announced in NewYork in the presence of the Netherlands’ Prime Minister Premier Rutte in September 2014, the StartupDelta Mentoring Network is now in its 2.0 version. In 2015 we launched additional hubs such as Silicon Valley/West Coast, Boston, and London. In 2016 we continue this expansion and the professionalisation of our network.

The StartupDelta Mentoring Platform aims to become the largest global virtual Dutch startup and tech entrepreneurs community, consisting of entrepreneurs working in different verticals in all major tech hubs in the world.

Once the application is approved the startup is granted access to the online platform of the Startup Mentoring Network. DutchBasecamps assigns relevant mentors and provides a warm introduction in the network.

Why a Mentoring Network?

All of our mentors are sharing their network, expertise and insights because they are committed to more Dutch entrepreneurs becoming successful in foreign tech hubs. They believe that mentorship improves the soft-landing of startups, which will trigger a snowball effect: A more successful company in for example the United States leads to bigger growth, job creation, profitability and more economic growth in our own country, the Netherlands. Our mentors also believe that the increased amount of Dutch startups in their hub, as well as the exposure of their successes, will make the Netherlands a more attractive location for foreign startups planning expansion to Europe. This will enable them to get familiar with the Dutch startup ecosystem and the business environment in the Netherlands, therefore increasing the likelihood of opening up an office in the Netherlands. Above all, it is fun to share knowledge, meet new people and help our Dutch startup ecosystem grow.

DutchBasecamp, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Consulate General of the Netherlands in New York, initiated this platform to create a self-organized mentoring network where Dutch startups and mentors can easily find one another. They will screen the startup’s applications and, once approved, assist them with the necessary preparations before their move.
